Blithe Spirit is a sparkling, fast-paced comedy of manners that juxtaposes the living and the dead with sharp wit and mischievous charm. The play explores jealousy, the absurdities of social propriety, and the trouble-loving interference of a ghost who refuses to be ignored. Expect sly one-liners, physical comedy, and a tender undercurrent beneath the farce as relationships are tested and the characters scramble toward an unpredictable, laugh-filled resolution.
Charles Condomine, a successful but sceptical novelist, invites an eccentric medium, Madame Arcati, to his home for a séance to gather material for his next book. What begins as light-hearted curiosity quickly turns chaotic when the séance inadvertently summons the spirit of Charles’s glamorous, witty first wife, Elvira. Invisible to everyone except Charles, Elvira proceeds to disrupt his comfortable life and new marriage to the pragmatic Ruth.
As Charles struggles to manage Elvira’s mischievous influence, old rivalries and unresolved feelings surface. Ruth is baffled by her husband’s increasingly odd behaviour and the unexplained accidents and misunderstandings that follow. Madame Arcati, both bemused and determined, attempts to set things right—but her unorthodox methods only deepen the confusion.
